Negative Ion Therapy: How do negative ions affect our lives?

http://www.modernalchemyair.com/images/negative-ion1.jpg

Negative ions are basically like the enemies of positive ions. Negative ions neutralise positive ions in the atmosphere. In the past, the ratio of negative ions to positive ions was 1:1.2, now it is the opposite, with the ratio of negative ions to positive ions as 1:0.833. There are now more positive ions in the air than before!

By neutralizing positive ions, negative ions help to remove elements that have a detrimental elements on the body's natural system, as negative ions which have an extra electron, is attracted to form bonds with these elements in our body. It helps drain the toxins from the environment and the body, and eliminates any disturbance of the muscles and nervous system. As these hindrances are being removed and brought under control, the individual's physical and mental health will be boosted.

"Negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy," says Pierce J. Howard, PhD, "They also may protect against germs in the air, resulting in decreased irritation due to inhaling various particles that make you sneeze, cough, or have a throat irritation. And for a whopping one in three of us who are sensitive to their effects, negative ions can make us feel like we are walking on air.

You are one of them if you feel instantly refreshed the moment you open a window and breathe in fresh, humid air. You may be one of them if you feel sleepy when you are around an air-conditioner, but feel immediately refreshed and invigorated when you step outside or roll down the car window," Howard says. "Air conditioning depletes the atmosphere of negative ions, but an ion generator re-releases the ions that air conditioners remove.

In a study conducted by Columbia University, 25 people with SAD (Seasonal Affective Depression) sat in front of a negative ion air purifier for a half hour every morning for a month. Half the subjects were given a low level of negative ions, and the other half a high level. The higher level of negative ion treatment proved to be as effective against SAD as antidepressants, such as Prozac and Zolof, and without the side effects of these drugs.

Negative ions are odorless tasteless molecules that are breathed into our respiratory system. High concentrations of negative ions can be found in nature in mountain forests, waterfalls, and beaches where people feel energized and invigorated, which helps relieve stress, alleviate depression, boost energy.

Negative Ion Therapy: How do negative ions come about?

http://www.poster.net/meola-eric/meola-eric-niagara-falls-8400872.jpg

Do you feel good and energised in a shower? Yes, a shower is a source of negative ions that many will be familiar with. Negative Ions can be generated by ocean surf and waterfalls, at the beach or mountains, or even by the friction from rubbing two different materials against each other due to the fact that some materials tend to gain electrons from things they come in contact with. In our daily lives we can usually feel the electricity of ions in dry air. Ever felt a slight shock in your arm when it touches your friend's arm? That is static electricity. Static is caused by a high ratio of positive to negative ions because of a lack of moisture in the air.
Michael Terman from Columbia University credits negative ions with the feeling of optimism in the air after a thunderstorm. Natural sources of negative ions are
  • wind in the mountains
  • surfing at the beach
  • near waterfalls or moving water bodies
  • lightning
Artificial sources include ionic air purifiers, negative ion generators, ionic necklaces and bracelets.

Negative Ion Therapy: What is a Negative Ion?

Negative ions are basically an atomic or molecular systems with an extra negative charge due to the possession of additional electrons. It is commonly known as anions.

From Ki Flow Ion Therapy Website - http://www.kiflow.com/info/ions.html
positive ion

Positive Ion: an atom (or molecule) that has lost one or more electrons due to a high-energy impact. Natural forces that generate positive ions include the decay of radioactive minerals, radon gas, forest fires, lightning and ultraviolet rays.

positive ion

Negative Ion: an atom (or molecule) that has gained one or more extra negatively charged electrons. Negative ions are naturally generated by evaporating water.
